FANUC (/ˈfænʊk/; often stylized as Fanuc) is a group of companies, primarily Japan's FANUC Corporation (ファナック株式会社 Fanakku Kabushikigaisha?) of Japan, Fanuc America Corporation of Rochester Hills, Michigan, United States, and FANUC Robotics Europe SA Luxembourg, which provide automation products and services such as robotics and computer numerical control systems. FANUC is one of the world's largest manufacturers of industrial robots. It is part of the Furukawa Group. FANUC started as part of developing Fujitsu's initial numerical control (NC) and servo systems. The company name is an acronym for numerical control factory automation.[1]
In 1972, the Computing Control Division became independent and FANUC Ltd was founded.[2]
FANUC is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Section 1, 6954. It is headquartered in Yamanashi Prefecture.
The company's clients include US electronics manufacturers and Japanese automakers. The use of industrial robots has allowed companies such as Panasonic in Amagasaki to run factories producing 2 million television units per month (mostly high end plasma LCD screens including 103-inch models) with only 25 people.[3]
FANUC has joint ventures, subsidiaries and sales offices on 5 continents and more than 22 countries. It is one of the largest manufacturers of CNC controls by market share.
